Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with a learning disability can enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. Its aim is to provide year-round training and access to regular competitions for people with learning disabilities. In August 1993 the National Special Olympic games came to Sheffield, since then Special Olympics Sheffield has been growing steadily.
Special Olympics is not just about achievement in sport. It also allows people to develop social contacts, skills for healthy living and a positive attitude to the challenges of life.
